My weiner dog.

My crazy, adorable, give me a scare weiner dog freaked me out yesterday. He somehow hurt his leg and started crying and wouldn't walk, so I thought that he hurt his back again and was scared to death. So I rushed him to the ER vet and by the time that I got him there he was fine and walking again. I'm like what the heck! The vet said that everything looked ok and that he seemed to look fine. I'm like ok but only a few minutes ago he wasn't walking. So I got him some more pain medicine just in case and was told to keep him from exercising (meaning more crate rest). Now today he is back to normal wanting to run and jump and play and be the crazy dog that he is. He is giving me a run for my money this month let me tell you. With four vet visits its like um ok please don't hurt yourself again cause mommy can't really afford it.
Don't you just love him though? He is soo adorable.

I'm in Love....

I know that Gabby is going to be like OMG Trisha I totally told you about this like 8 months ago, where have you been? I admit that I kind of ignored the frenzy of Twilight, both with the book and the movie. But I was at Border's the other day looking for something and I figured, hey, what the heck, lets read Twilight and see what all the fuss is about.
So I started it last night and I'm already on Chapter 11. Edward has stolen my heart. I feel like a kid again. Its just good, really really good. Reminds you of your first crush and all those tingling feelings you get, and anticipation you have waiting to see them again. Plus Edward is like the protector every girl wants, one who secretly is keeping an eye on you and wanting to protect you. I seriously had a dream about him all night.
Ok so back to reading, I have to figure out how the heck this thing ends so that I can get the other books and read on.

UPDATE--Ok I did a search online for the Twilight movie. So I found it and was wathing it, after 112 minutes it said you have reached your limit, So now I have to wait another hour to finish it. Ahhh!!
Oh and the book is like way better then the movie, I mean the movie is good but you miss sooo many details.
I guess back to the book.

UPDATE #2- Ok I just finished watching the movie, it was pretty good but I hope that the second one is better. The book is still way better. I'm on Chapter 13 now.

I added some pizazz to 2 of my pillowcases by adding fabric strips to the edge. I also made a pillow cover for a square pillow that I have. I love the color combination of these fabrics, a little bit of Amy Butler, a little bit of Kaffe Fasset and a little bit of some Joann's fabric. I think that I want to make a strip quilt out of these prints. I might add a few more to them.
The pink Amy Butler is my favorite fabric right now. I'm going to try to make a better Swing Bag this weekend and use this fabric for it. We shall see how it goes.
I haven't felt like sewing since Sunday. It's cold outside and after work I have just wanted to come home and veg on the couch with my dog and my blanket. I could seriously be a bear and hibernate during the winter. But watch out for when the sun starts to shine some heat again. Cause I am all about summertime!!!!

Today is such a historical day for America and for the World. I watched pretty much all of the inauguration ceremonies. It was so moving and inspiring and it just overwhelmed me with emotion. Knowing that the world is changing and that we have such an inspiring person now leading our country. It was also moving to see all of the people who came to D.C. to witness the new President take office in person. The hope in their eyes just told their stories... how we have been through so much, how we have come so far, and how we have so much farther to go. I hope that within the forecoming years with Obama as President we can grow together as a country and as a world. I am eager to see the changes that will occur throughout my lifetime. History is now being made every single day.
It's glorious and exciting and inspiring!!

New Projects Completed, and still in the works

So today Laura came over and we made Swing Bags from Amy Butler's pattern. I have to say that I hate patterns!! Some things that you have to do just don't make sense! Anyways, it came out ok I think. I think that I like the Birdie Pattern much better, makes a nicer bag. This bag doesn't even have pockets. It's more or less a tote bag, and do you see the stitches on the left and right on the top picture?? Um yeah I hate those! But you had to do a zig zag stitch because the bag isn't sewn all the way up to the handles...something that I would change a bit if I make another one. But I had to sew longer zig zag stitches because I didn't want the opening that big. The pattern also has a bow but I didn't make that. I might add a little one cause I think it might look better. I might make another one of these because it doesn't call for much fabric and I would like to see if I can make it better the second time. Anyways, its a completely reversible bag which is nice.

This is another pattern that I worked on yesterday. I actually didn't use the pattern because I didn't like feeling like I was in math class having to cut inches like a zillion different ways. So I looked at the photo from the pattern and I just went with the flow. Its not finished yet because I need a border and to add the stems to the flowers, I'm also going to add a butterfly. Anyways, it came out really nice and I totally surprised myself how I got all those strips to match up perfectly and fit. This is going to be a nice quilt. Oh and in case you are wondering its made from one jelly roll of 40 strips that are 2 1/2 inches wide. And yes I pieced this whole thing together in one night!!
I'm a quick sewer when I get into my groove. ha!

My New Favorite Show

So I realize that this show has been around for like a zillion years, but I just happened to catch a glimpse of the new season yesterday and now I am hooked....want to know what it is?
It's MTV's Real World Brooklyn. They actually have a good cast this season and one guy in particular is just soo funny. His name is Ryan and he served in Iraq. His facial expressions are just too much. Anyways if you just happen to check it out let me know what you think. Oh and there is another guy JD who I think is really cute...too bad he doesn't swing my way if you know what I mean. He is still nice to look at non the less. Oh and he has like the best job ever, a dolphin trainer!! How sweet is that.
New TV addictions are about the only excitement of my week. I do have good news though. Oscar is up and walking and seems to feel really good. I'm just having a hard time keeping him locked up in the crate 24/7. I am keeping a very very close eye on him though. You can count on that.

My Craft Mosiac

I finally finally figured out how to make a mosiac of photos. I did a search online and found some webside that took a set from my Flickr account and created it for me. Awesome!!
So here is my first mosiac of projects that I have made, including quilts, crochet blankets and other sewing projects.
This is a good way to remind me of all that I have accomplished.

New Crochet projects

I just think that everyone should have a feather tree. Isn't it just beautiful? I keep mine up in the kitchen on the table all year. It just makes me smile!
I decided to do some early decorations for Valentine's Day. I made two crochet doilies/placemats. I didn't use any patterns I just started with one circle and then continued.

This crochet circle is done with all half double crochet stitches.

With this crochet doilie I did different stitches and just switched up the patterns. I think it came out pretty nice.

Finished Tina Givens Quilt

So I didn't do what I said I was going to do today, but I figured that I should finish something before I start something else.. so here is my Tina Givens Quilt finally finished!
I started this quilt back in September when my friend Kelly gave me this fabric for my birthday. I had to get some extra fabric for the borders and the backing, but all of the blocks were made using 9 fat quarters and the Crazy Nine Patch pattern, which you can find on Oh Fransson's blog. It's really easy to do. After I made the crazy 9 patchs I added some sashing and a border. This quilt is bright and full of patterns. I think it came out pretty nice, however I think I should of used some plain solid color fabric for the border so that you can concentrate on the 9 patches. This is my first finished quilt for myself.

This is the backing. I basically sewed together 9 fat quarters and then used more fabric around the edges. Some of it got cut off during the whole quilting process so it kind of looks unbalanced. It is really hard to center the front and the back together and have it stay perfect while you are quilting, but with more practice I shall get better.

New Quilt Project

Today was my Jelly Roll Jubilee class at Sew Worth It. We knew what the fabric was going to be, it is Moda's Urban Couture by Basic Grey, but what we didn't know, was what kind of project we were to make out of the fabric. Well this turned out to be our project!! How wonderful is this quilt. I haven't started it yet because the class was more of just explaining how to make it, but you can bet that this is what I am going to start working on tomorrow. I'm excited because this will be my first quilt with applique and with basically a picture, so it will be good to be used as a wall hanging. If you have a chance, go and check out the fabric online. It is based off of a scrapbook paper collection so its just beautiful.

I still have many unfinished projects but I guess thats the life of a quilter. I will get things completed eventually.

So I made a resolution this year to try to save money by using more coupons!
I found this website Money Saving Mom that posts coupons and discounts for many items. I didn't think that it would work but I printed out some coupons and went to Target today. I got a 50 count of Tylenol for 50 cents, I saved $4 with a coupon. I also got toothpaste for 60 cents, and I got 3 bars of soap for free. In total with all of my coupons from last weeks ads and from this site I saved $20 bucks off of $60. Pretty good deal!
Check out this site for some good deals, you don't just have to be a mom because many items are for necessities and food.

Since I haven't shown you.

Here is my Blooming 9 Patch quilt top all sewn together. This bad boy is huge!! Queen size for sure. I used all Amy Butler fabrics and I think that the pictures again just don't do this quilt justice. You can't tell by the pictures, but there is another color around the borders. There are 8 different prints in this quilt. It's beautiful. I will get this quilted this year and I hope to find a wall to display it on and just gaze at it all day.

I can finally show you what I made for some Christmas presents for my family. Since they just got them today!! This is the ripple afghan that I made for Gabby. I think that this one took me forever but I was happy with the way that it came out and I know that she likes it.

This is a quilt that I made for my mom. The top picture is the back which kind of shows the quilting on it. I just did straight line quilting since this was my first quilt.
The top of the quilt is made with Moda Cotton Blossom fabric. I used a jelly roll and a pattern from the Book "Jelly Roll Quilts". I also added a border to make the quilt bigger. The back is pieced together. The pictures don't do the quilt justice, for some reason they came out blurry.

In other news Oscar is doing ok. He still has to spend time in the crate to recover so thats what I'm doing, just giving him time to relax and heal. Then hopefully he will be back to normal.

Poor Oscar

As many of you may know my dearly beloved weiner dog Oscar somehow hurt his back. He started out with just a cry when I picked him up, then he was ok for a few days, and then he got horribly worse and couldn't even walk. I had to rush him to the ER vet. They gave him a pain pill, steroids, and a muscle relaxer. They also told me to confine him to a crate for 3 weeks straight. This isn't an easy task, since I have never had my dog in a crate, ever! I think its more stressful on me to see his sad face wondering what he did and why I am torchering him. I know its for the best because I want him to get better and not get worse. After 3 days he is doing ok. I can tell that he isn't in pain anymore and that he is ready to get back to normal....normal is going to have to wait another 2 1/2 weeks for him.
I am taking him to the normal vet tomorrow for a follow-up visit, so hopefully they will have some good news for me. I would just die is something happened to him. He is only going to be 7 years old.
Anyways, I had to take a picture of him sleeping in the crate. He is actually becoming used to it and relaxing in it more. He is just soo cute!
