Cold Weather

Today was one of the first cool days that we have had, and to me it was FREEEZZING!! I am always reminded as soon as it gets cold outside how much I hate cold weather. Having to get up early in the morning to take a shower and it being cold in the house is no fun. Having to drive to work with your fingers cold waiting for the car to warm up is no fun either. Then having to work in an office where the temperature is a constant 63 degrees (no joke on that one; we have a clock with a thermostat that reads 63 degrees all day) is no fun either. So I give props to all of you northerners who have to deal with "real" cold weather for many months cause I just couldn't do it.
As far as this Florida girl, I will wait for my sunny hot days and be happy again.

Halloween is almost here...

but for some reason it doesn't feel like halloween. I think that I would be more into it if I had my own kids to dress up and to make costumes for and to go trick or treating with. I thought about dressing up the dog but how ridiculous would I look trying to get into the halloween spirit and walk my dog door to door trick or treating? I'm sure it would get a few laughs but the dog would have no idea what's going on. Plus he hates dressing up anyways, he would have the costume ripped off in like 1 minute flat.
So I think for halloween I'm going to hangout with Laura and Morgan, drink some wine and pass out candy at their house.

On another note, us girls are going to have the whole weekend alone cause the boys are going on their "boy cruise" blah to that! Laura and I lost the battle on this one, but we will win the war!! Ha ha! We are just secretly hoping that they get sick (you know that aweful stomach bug that keeps you locked in your room for 3 days) on the ship or that it rains the whole time. We are mean I know. But who does that now a days, taking seperate vacations. Never heard of such a thing. I think Tom knows that this is his 1 alone cruise that he gets cause I won't let him take another one. Plus after he takes this cruise we will be tied at an even 8 cruises a piece. So we can't let him get ahead of me. The good thing is that I get to plan our next vacation, and the destination is Alaska!!! And the even better news that it will be just me and him.

(The pictures above are halloween wall hangings that I made.)

Friday night we went out to dinner and then went to Jason and Laura's house and carved pumpkins. This is my scary pumpkin!!

Tom had a pretty difficult time with his pumpkin! It was pretty funny.

I feel like I haven't blogged in a while, I have soo much to say today!
First of all today was my last class for my blooming 9 patch quilt. I finished my top! It does have some blemishes, but that's to be expected because I'm no perfectionist. I'm definately glad that this is done, cause now I can focus on my christmas projects. Oh, and I think I'm going to wait until after christmas to have it quilted. The lady at the shop said that she would give me a discount so that's good.

Check out this cute picture of Oscar. Jason took it when he came over the other day. Oscar just loves Jason and Josh and Tom. He just gets soo excited when they come over.
Oh. I found out tonight that the quilt shop owner has a mini dachshund too, he is a brown dapple.
I think that me and her have so much in common, minus the whole age difference and a bunch of other things. Ha! She did say something really funny the other night. Someone said something about the baseball game and she was like, um I think I would rather watch grass grow! Ha. I was like um yeah I was thinking the same thing. Sit here and sew or watch baseball??? Um, there's no thinking on that one.

Check out these scraps! The quilt shop has scrap packs for $5. So I bought two of them. See how much fabric I got!! I can definately make some cool patchwork stuff. There must be almost 2 yards of fabric in each pack. I might have to go back this weekend and get some more!

This is the stash from the second scrap pack! I did put these pictures in a different order but I don't know why they turned up like this. Oh well.

Oh and I found an awesome website today. www.bloglines.com it takes all of your favorite blogs and puts them in one place! Perfect for easy viewing of all your favorite sites. This thing is going to be so handy while I'm at work. Ha!!!

Oh and if you want to follow my blog you have to add me from the link on the right side of my blog.

Finally I will be taking a vacation in a few weeks, on a short 4 night cruise to Cozumel and Key West and then on a 5 night trip to visit my wonderful family in South Carolina!! I can't wait! Some yummy homemade food and the comfort of my family at Thanksgiving is going to be wonderful. It would only be perfect if my sister Heather could be there, and if my Aunt Diane and Becky could be there. Maybe they will be through the whole webcam thing. Ha!

OH and another finally. Kelly showed me a blog Nie Nie Dialogues, Well Nie and her husband were in a horrible plane crash and are in serious condition. I have become very humbled by the blogging world and the internet and how everyone has come together to support this family. They are a wonderful family and I hope that they are able to fully recover. Check out her blog, you will become inspired by this woman, her children, and her family. She will make you appreciate life and the simpliest of things.
Its just something to think about...

Ok here is a challenge to all of my family and friends who read this blog (you know who you are). I am looking for your favorite fabric that you just love. Or favorite colors. Post pictures of what you like!!
I am starting to pre-plan my christmas shopping and since I'm so into sewing right now you might just get lucky and get something handmade from your favorite fabric.

So please help me out, otherwise you might just get something that I love instead.

New Book

This is a new book that I got in the mail today, from my lovely book club. There are alot of nice patterns in it to make wonderful quilts from jelly rolls. Something I will have to try. Oh if I could only stay home and sew all day long, I would get so much done.

OH and by the way, I'm still toughing it out survivor style at my house a.k.a. No A/C!
Hopefully tomorrow the broken compressor will arrive and I can sit comfortably in my nice cool house!

Blooming 9 Patch starting to bloom

Ok here it is all layed out on my floor. You can see that the first picture doesn't have all of the squares, but as you get to the last picture all of the squares are there. I think that the colors came out really well... Many thanks to Amy Butler, ha!
Now I have to sew each square together in each row and then sew each row together. Man this is alot of work!! Not to mention that I haven't even thought about what I'm going to put on the back!!

Wonderful Weekend

Ok not really. I had grand plans for my weekend, 1. work on my quilt for quilt class, 2. get out halloween decorations, 3. yard work, 4. start christmas ideas... all of these wonderful projects were on my weekend plans until our A/C decided to stop working. So Instead I'm so hot in my stinking house that I don't have the energy to do anything!! I called the landlord's assistant and she gave me the a/c guys number and I left him a message, as did she. but unfortunately he doesn't work until monday morning. So I have to wait until then. I didn't feel like throwing a hissy with the landlord because I always call him with problems and he is really nice, plus his assistant said that he is out of town so I doubt that there is much that he could do on the weekend anyways, especially since he isn't even the state!

I did manage to put some sashing on my other quilt in progess. My Tina Given's Chloe's Imagination quilt. I still have to put the sashing on the sides, and then I'm going to add some more fabric, because if I don't I think its going to be a really really small quilt. Oh and I need to figure out what I'm going to do with the backing too.
But here it is, a work in progress. Its designed with the crazy 9 patch quilt pattern.

Halloween Decorations

This is a halloween wall thing that I made, and my new Build a Bear Halloween Cat. She has pumpkins all on her. I know I'm too old for Build a Bear's but Tom for some reason likes them. So I had a $10 coupon so the cat only cost me $6 bucks. Oh and the vase is something that Tom's mom got me for my birthday. Also mom's mini pumpkin from her garden fits in perfectly.

Here are more squares for my Blooming 9 Patch

These are squares of colors 3 and 4.

These are squares of colors 4 and 5.
These are squares of 5 and 6. I like the way that each square is different, some have light pink and some have darker pink. Should make the quilt pretty cool.
And these are colors 7 and 8.
Oh and this is the back of one square so that you can see how nice my seams are!! ha.

Blooming nine patch part 1

This is the first two colors of my blooming nine patch quilt. You can also see the beginning of the third color being incorporated into it. This quilt is starting out light in color and then its going to get darker. Hopefully it will come out ok. I'm a little iffy about it right now....I still have alot more cutting and sewing and pressing to do, but for right now I'm just too tired to even think about it.

I'm in Heaven!!

So I went to my first quilt class tonight and I learned so much already. Now I know how to press correctly and how to do some cuts to make my nine patchs. I also found out that they told me not to wash my fabric. There is no need too because of such good quality fabric that we are using. The lady loved my Amy Butler prints and she said that she has never seen a blooming nine patch quilt come out bad. She said that no matter what fabric you use, it will look wonderful. So far I have my first 3 cuts of fabric done, and the quilt already is starting to bloom. Now I have tons of homework to do, tons of sewing on this quilt. Sewing and cutting and pressing and sewing and cutting and pressing and just more and more of that.
Now its going to be hard to work tomorrow and trying not to think about working on my quilt.

Oh and the quilt shop is expanding into a new store soon, so its going to be even bigger!! Plus I saw some new fabrics that they just got in and they are AMAZING!! I just have all of these ideas in my head on all of these things that I want to make. Check out the quilt shop www.sewworthit.com

I think that this is what I was meant to do!! Quilt and sew and just create something new all the time.
I need to quit my day job!! ha

Well I will post pictures of my quilt soon so that you can see it. I guess I should get some sleep now.
